in-vee-si-ble touch-a!

i'm pretty pumped about this edition of the weekly 5+ because i got the new strokes song and i'm jazzed about it, but i'm going to make you wait for a moment, because i have some important things to say.

have you ever found yourself wondering "how much genesis is too much genesis?" well, friends, wonder no more. i have an answer for you.

i was driving home from the hospital this morning and "invisible touch" was on 103.5 the arrow. i can get behind that, absolutely. the dj came on and started babbling about genesis and phil and peter and steve and blah blah blah, i wasn't really listening because it was six thirty in the morning. i thought it was slightly odd that "in too deep" began after "invisible touch." two in a row? okay. fine. whatever.
and then "just a job to do" came on. i didn't know how to react, because phil was seriously rocking the shit out of that song, but i couldn't listen. i had to find some shitty pop that i secretly listen to because i just couldn't take any more genesis.
so i've reached the answer: how much is too much?
three songs in a row.

it's really fucking weird to have mountains here. it's really cool, but it's hard to get used to. so what did i do to acclimate? i ran through the mountains yesterday.
seriously. i took the three dogs and went to the mountains and ran the pipeline trail in mill creek canyon, up through the mountains. it was quite the difficult run, seeing as the air here is a lot thinner than it is at sea level, and, oh yeah i smoke a lot of cigarettes so that might make it hard too. but pushing through the pain of my burning lungs and the knife in my side, i came to a clearing and saw the mountains on fire with the different colors of fall. there's got to be some kind of analogy for "fighting through the pain to get to the beauty," but i've been awake ALL NIGHT so i can't grasp it right now. believe me - it was wonderful. it made my entire day.

in lieu of my u2 concert last night (at which they apparently played "crumbs from your table" for the first time on their tour, goddamn it), here's the weekly 5+, aka literally all the songs that i have on this computer.

weekly 5+:
1. massive attack - teardrop (mezzanine)
-you've heard this song. it's the theme to house and probably a few failed dramas on ABC. god i love massive attack.

2. true love always - september (s/t)
-I LOVE THIS SONG. earth, wind, & fire is not an easy band to cover, but THIS IS TOO GOOD TO PASS UP.

3. echo & the bunnymen - stormy weather (siberia)
-i originally got this song because i liked the name of the band, but this is a nice little tune, if you're into nice little tunes. and i am.

4. the strokes - juicebox (via stereogum)
-sheeiiiitttt, man, this track is so fucking good. so good. fuck. i really hope the rest of the new album is as fucking cool as this.

5. aesop rock & del tha funky homosapien - preservation (think differently music: wu-tang meets indie culture)
-this song is SO GOOD. it's too bad that there's a woman reciting the copyrights a few times. at least she says it in rhythm.

6. ryan adams & the cardinals (feat. norah jones) - dear john (the jacksonville city nights)
-this song is really sweet. ryan starts the song kind of shaky vocally behind norah's even melodies, but on the whole, i like this song.

ahaha i love how on these songs all i could say was "SO GOOD" and some form of "fuck." seriously, though, take ALL of these songs. TAKE THEM ALL. they're solid. i promise.

i realized this morning that my blogger picture makes me look twelve. i should get on that.

i wish the music scene didn't completely suck here. or that daniel wasn't my only friend here. i have nothing to do in my down time but check blogs that i've already checked and sleep and update my blog with nothing of substance and watch movies that i've already seen a million times and watch documentaries with daniel about interesting things like muhammad ali or bizarre and sad things like feral children. at least i'm learning.

and by the way, those laguna beach kids need to get out of the press. they are NOT celebrities, god damn it.

team LC,
clifford out.

first of all i can relate to your genesis phenomenon. on my 8th birthday, my parents took me and my brother and sister to a hotel to celebrate. that morning, we are watching TV and the "Talking to Jesus" (or something like that, you know the song) video was on. fine. whatever. then in the car on the way there, we heard it again. a coincidence but not that weird. then we go to a restaurant. it's playing in the fucking restaurant, too. THEN we get to the hotel room, turn on the tv, and what do we see? you guessed it. phil colins. fucking weird.
also, the tv in my apt was borrowed from my roommates ex boyfriend. when he found out she went to a coldplay concert with another guy, he came over and took it back. jerk.

you got jazzed about?
i actaully skipped the whole blog beacuse i was so excited that you used the word jazzed, for exvcited...how i loveith thee

That aesop/DTFH song was super.
"Juicebox" was pretty great.
The Earth Wind And Fire cover was sweet.

Stellar music. A+.

"YOU'LLLLLL BEEEEEEEEEE IN MYYYYYY HEAAAAAAART"

What an ass...

-You know who

holy shit, look who's gaining some maturity and moving up from xanga. i haven't completely converted, but I had to act fast because I wasn't sure how long an obscure Morrissey joke of a title would be available.

You know what's cooler than Genesis?

Journey. You know it.

kim,
of course journey is better than genesis. my story this morning just happened to involve genesis.

and welcome to the world of people who are over twelve years old.

that was not a dig on you. i was just hoping that joel read that.
